Mental Health Research UK – PhD Scholarship Competition 2025

Mental Health Research UK – PhD Scholarship Competition 2025
no comments

This is a great opportunity for mental health researchers focusing on maternal mental health who are wanting to supervise a PhD student.  Just for clarity: The application is for universities in the UK to apply for funding to host the scholarships, they are not open to potential PhD candidates to apply for.

Mental Health Research UK views maternal mental health in a broad sense as going from pregnancy through the first year post-partum.

There are two scholarships available for application by universities:

  • The John Grace QC scholarship should focus on psychotic disorders, including puerperal psychosis

  • The second scholarship is open, and we invite applications on topics such as post-natal depression, developing post-natal family mental health interventions, factors influencing maternal mental health.

Each university can only submit one application for each scholarship, but they can apply for both. The funding for each scholarship is for up to 4 years, with the expectation that a doctorate will be awarded at the end of the funding.

The application period is open now until midnight on 27 May with the scholarships due to start in September 2025. The MHRUK website has a FAQ document, terms and conditions, and the links to the application form – check it out here
