Three NIHR Research Schools’ Mental Health Programme – Postdoctoral launching research fellowship

With the addition of £4.98m in additional funding the NIHR Three Schools Mental Health Project has launched three new open funding calls, each focused on a separate career stage.

This call is for early career researchers with a PhD who are seeking funding to support their career development towards research independence and establish a research network.

As with the other calls certain research areas will be prioritised for funding. These are:

  • Suicide prevention in high-risk groups (including those working in the agricultural sector and young men)
  • Mental health in pregnancy
  • Prison mental health
  • Mental health in different religious groups
  • Mental health in military veterans.

Applications do not need to be limited to these areas however.

4 Fellowships will be awarded. Also of note – holders of phase one funding are being invited to apply for additional funding, so this might be a possibility with these fellowships too – an added bonus!

Eligibility

As with the Investigator Led award, The Three Schools funding is restricted to researchers based at one of the members of one of the Three schools. They also require collaboration between schools, therefore the lead applicant and supporting applicant must be working across institutions to increase research collaborations in the field as well as innovation.

This means that you and another applicant must be based at any of the universities that are members of one of the three schools.

For SPCR it is: Bristol University, Exeter University, Keele University, Manchester University, Nottingham University, University of Oxford, Queen Mary University of London, Southampton University and University College London

For SPHR it is:  Bristol University, University of Cambridge, Fuse, University of Exeter, Imperial College London, LiLaC, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, PHRESH – Public Health RESearch for Health Consortium, and University of Sheffield

For SSCR it is: University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Kent, Kings College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Manchester, and University of York.

The deadline for this funding call is 15:30 28 March and application forms and supporting documentation can be found here. Applications should be submitted to Claire Ashmore at c.ashmore@keele.ac.uk

An overview of the other two funding calls is here:

Masters fellowships – for front line workers wanting to get into research by undertaking a masters

Investigator led award – for people in one of the Three Schools member universities with a research project idea (no PhD required)
