To round up the #MentalHealthResearchMatters campaign, you can hear from a panel of mental health researchers and policymakers who have implemented mental health research in policy. The panel will discuss:
- The importance of influential mental health research
- How mental health research can inform policy and practice
- What policymakers need from mental health researchers
- What you can do to put your research into action
The webinar will be hosted by Professor Dame Til Wykes, Vice Dean for Mental Health & Psychological Sciences at the IoPPN and Professor of Clinical Psychology and Rehabilitation at King’s College London. She will be joined by a panel of experts including
- Andy Bell – Interim CEO, Centre for Mental Health
- Andy will speak about his work influencing mental health policy for over 20 years – the challenges, successes, lessons learned and what’s next for mental health research and policy.
- Professor Alan Simpson – Professor of Mental Health Nursing, KCL and Co-Director of NIHR Policy Research Unit.
- Alan will talk about policy research units – what they are and why we need them. He’ll touch on achievements, lessons learned, and his top tips for researchers.
- Dr Esther Mukuka – Head of Equality Diversity and Inclusion for NIHR
- Esther will speak about the type of research needed to influence policy from an EDI perspective and what policymakers and researchers need to keep in mind when building an evidence base. Esther will share examples from NIHR and tips for researchers.
- Professor Siobhán O’Neill – Professor of Mental Health Sciences at Ulster University
- Siobhán will discuss her government role as Mental Health Champion Northern Ireland. She will highlight evidence gaps, discuss how research has shaped policy, and share her tips for researchers.
- Dr Chris Eaton – Health and Social Services Research Welsh Government and Wolfson Centre Cardiff University
- Chris will talk about the key things he’s learned in building research-policy links as part of his joint role, the challenges associated with this, and the activities the Wolfson Centre has undertaken to inform and evaluate youth mental health policy in Wales.
