Research fellowships and internships for clinical practitioners – NIHR ARC Wessex

NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Wessex is pleased to announce three research awards, now open to applications. This funding is designed to boost the next generation of health and care researchers, particularly those working in healthcare in Wessex.

The awards will fund the time, training, mentorship, and support to conduct a project that contributes to one of ARC Wessex’s four themed priority areas: ageing & dementia, healthy communities, long-term conditions, and workforce & health systems.

A Q&A session for applicants will be held at 4:30pm on 12th December 2022

Researcher Initiation Internship Award

Who is this award for?

Professionals working in healthcare organisations in Wessex who would like to start a clinical academic career

What will I do?

  • Observe, visit, and work in a clinical research environment
  • Undertake research and study to prepare for future application to a Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) or a clinical doctoral academic fellowship (CDRF)
  • Conduct a self-contained project, literature review, or analysis embedded in your practice that contributes to one of the four priority areas
  • Improve knowledge of the priorities for research and improvement in your area
  • Build networks for ongoing collaboration

What is the funding?

Up to £10,000 over 6 months part time

 

Researcher Enhancement Award

Who is this award for?

Healthcare professionals or practitioners working in Wessex who have completed doctoral research and would like support as an independent early career researcher

What will I do?

  • Receive support in applying for an NIHR Clinical Lecturer Fellowship or the NIHR Advanced Fellowship
  • Conduct a self-contained project, literature review, or analysis embedded in your practice that contributes to one of the four priority areas

What is the funding?

Up to £20,000 over 6 months part-time secondment

 

Data Science Internship Award

Who is this award for?

Healthcare professionals or applied health researchers at any career stage working in the NHS in Wessex who would like to collect and analyse data to improve patient care and research into new clinical models.

What will I do?

  • Design a data science and applied healthcare research project, relevant to one of the four priority areas, that will make a difference in practice within 12 months of completion
  • Improve your understanding of data analysis methods and develop skills to solve data-driven problems
  • Act as an ambassador for collaboration between universities and healthcare providers in Wessex
  • Work within and learn from multidisciplinary teams
  • Develop specialist knowledge to work with researchers and innovators to advance data-driven health systems
  • Strengthen relationships with NHS providers in data-driven health systems, data engineering and governance, cybersecurity, and AI

What is the funding?

Up to £10,000 or £20,000 for post-doctoral interns, for 6–12 months
