NIHR has opened applications for funding in four research programmes for children’s and young people’s mental health. This is an excellent opportunity with a broad scope for researchers looking to evaluate mental health interventions for children and young people.

Applications are open to anyone who feels they can carry out high-quality research.

Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR) Programme

Deadline: 1300 GMT Wednesday 15 March 2023

The Health and Social Care Delivery Research Programme funds research to improve the quality, accessibility, and organisation of health and social care services. This programme would be suitable for mixed-methods studies focusing on the experience of people accessing health and social care services, their carers and/or families, and staff. Projects will usually include an analysis of routine and linked data on service use, activity, and outcomes.

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme

Deadline: 1300 GMT Wednesday 29 March 2023

The Health Technology Assessment Programme funds research to compare current interventions to potential interventions that have existing evidence of their efficacy. This programme would be suitable for projects looking at clinical and cost-effectiveness and the broader impact of healthcare treatments and tests for NHS and social care service users and workers.

Public Health Research (PHR) Programme

Deadline: 1300 GMT Tuesday 4 April 2023

The Public Health Research Programme funds research that will inform the delivery of non-NHS interventions to improve public health and reduce health inequalities. This programme would be suitable for studies involving interventions at the group or population level.

Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme

Deadline: 1300 GMT Tuesday 25 April 2023

The Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation Programme funds research that evaluates interventions with the potential to improve health, treat disease, and improve rehabilitation or long-term care. This programme would be suitable for clinical trials or other robustly designed studies testing the efficacy of interventions, or hypothesis-testing mechanistic studies.
