The Three NIHR Research Schools have announced a further £4.98m of additional funding for phase two of their support programme for mental health research. This funding is available in the form of 3 structured open calls, at the moment, each aimed at people at different stages in their research career.
This one is for 8 masters fellowships, aimed at providing a bridge for people currently working in front line health and care positions who might want to get into mental health research but need some additional research and skills training.
As with the other calls, certain research areas will be prioritised for funding. These are:
- Suicide prevention in high-risk groups (including those working in the agricultural sector and young men)
- Mental health in pregnancy
- Prison mental health
- Mental health in different religious groups
- Mental health in military veterans.
Applications do not need to be limited to these areas however.
The funding will cover participation in a 1 or 2 year full time, or 2 year part time masters programme. Some funding may also be available to backfill substantive employment costs (if applicable). Funding is intended to start in September 2024 and must be complete by the end of March 2026.
Eligibility
- Eligible courses include Master’s level programmes focusing on research and or research training
- Applicants must not already hold a master’s qualification or a higher degree.
- Applicants must be qualified for home-level fees
The deadline for this funding call is 15:30 28 March and application forms and supporting documentation can be found here. Applications should be submitted to Claire Ashmore at c.ashmore@keele.ac.uk
An overview of the other two funding calls is here:
Investigator led award – for people in one of the Three Schools member universities with a research project idea (no PhD required)
Postdoctoral launching research fellowship – for early career postdoc researchers who need time to establish their career and develop research collaborations
